Costs Considerations in the Internet of Things

In the IoT there will be billions of devices, and because of sheer size of the market, component costs are going to be squeezed out of each and every device. Fractions of a cent matter. So, even though the costs of very powerful microcontroller devices are plummeting, the costs of their smaller bretheren are also dropping, perhaps more spectacularly because of scale. You can buy a small microcontroller for less than 30 cents, but it cannot run a TCP/IP stack or have an OS on it.

ConnectEx, Inc.’s focus is on the Machine-to-Machine (M2M) or control system space. Our products (and roadmap) add “Connectivity for the last 100m”™, whether this is WiFi, wired Ethernet, twisted-pair multidrop, Zigbee, Bluetooth Smart or Powerline, we have software, a module or a gateway to connect these very small devices to the global Internet of Things. (Called the Industrial Internet of Things, IIot, I2oT or IzoT).
